This route in the Eastern Wainwrights should have enough climb to satisfy anyone, but the paths throughout are all good.

From Patterdale, you could follow the route via Boredale Hause to Place Fell, but to avoid an out-and-back it is more interesting to take the path north of the summit.

After Angle Tarn it's worth climbing a little along the main path before aiming South West to Brock Crags. And after Brock Crag, notice that there is a path leading fairly directly down hill to Hartsop.

Cross Deepdale Bridge, skirt Lane Head and climb to Arnison Crag. From there, the wall on your right leads directly to Birks, so keep to paths that follow the same general direction.

After St Sunday Crag, find the path leading down the slope to Grisedale Tarn. Continuuing along the ridge would take you to Fairfield, involving much more climb.

It's a entertaining climb to Seat Sandal, and then a run down a grassy sloops to the top of the path that would lead down Raise Beck. Instead take the path to Dollywagon Pike and Helvellyn, taking care to divert slightly to the Wainwrights along the route.

After Helvellyn have fun descending Swirral Edge and then on to Catstye Cam. Note that there is a small path leading East from that summit, but also that you will need to leave it and go further South to reach the path junction at the outlet of Red Tarn.

Finally, on to Birkhouse Moor and the descent initially towards Glenridding. Before Little Cove, soon after leaving the wall, turn right to leave the Glenridding path and continue towards Patterdale.

Parking in Patterdale is not always easy. If you use the parking site opposite the hotel, you will need a plentiful supply of coins.
