A really varied day in the Northern Wainwrights.

Start along forestry paths with some tricky navigation. Once in the open avoid bracken and heather by finding the path along Sleet How. Then wonderful ridge paths until you turn North just after Whiteside.

Good running down from Whiteside, but here's thick bracken in the bottom of Hope Gill until you get to a road leading towards the Whinlatter Pass but diverting to Scawgill Bridge.

It's quite steep up to Graystones, and then you have a choice when crossing Wythop Moss: the double fence in the centre or the vague path on the Western edge.

Ling Fell and Sale Fell are easier to navigate, but there are more path issues in the felled areas of Wythop Wood. Escaping from there, it's easy again to reach Broom Fell and there are wonderful views from Lord's Seat and Barf.

Whinlatter peak can be another navigational challenge though by then you're nearly home. The key is to find the correct paths though the forestry: don't descend into Drycloff Gill as you'll end up climbing through thick bracken.

Hard work but hopefully worth it.
